In Search of the Great Pastor Conference
Just a reminder that spots for the In Search of the Great Pastor Conference are filling up. I do want you to go! If you are a pastor and can share one thing that you are doing right in the leadership of your church that God is blessing, we want to learn from you! If you have one thing that you feel like you are failing as a leader or that you are beating your head against the wall and struggling to overcome, then we want to help you!
Phone Calls…
This afternoon, I was sitting here watching an episode of Eureka on fancast when the phone rang. It was a youth pastor from a town a little south of here just calling to pick my brains a little for ideas he could use for his youth group. It surprised me since I am simply a blogger, no longer in the trenches of church leadership. It reminds me that each of us has something to offer. Each pastor and even former pastor can be a help to others. This is the very reason for the “In Search of the Great Pastor Conference” coming up in February 2011. Pastors can help each other. I pray that if you are a senior pastor, you will consider lending your expertise to this conference and learn from your cohorts in the process.

God seems to open a lot of doors at the same time in life. I have been letting you all know about the upcoming In Search of the Great Pastor Conference in February. Please keep praying for that and that the Lord will send the pastors that HE wants to be a part of it. Also, I am going to be speaking in a couple churches this month. I am really excited about getting to talk with the students at Augusta Road United Methodist Church on April 18th. I pray that the Lord will do some incredible things that evening! On the 25th, I will be preaching at Slater Baptist Church in their 11:00 am service. I cant wait to get to share with this congregation what God has laid on my heart for that Sunday! Please keep all of these in prayer.
In Search of the Great Pastor Conference!
Hey, just a reminder that while it feels like a ways away, you don’t want to miss the In Search of the Great Pastor Conference coming up February 25th-26th, 2011! Spots won’t be available for long. Make sure to reserve your space before they run out as we can’t go over our limit of 20 people. Also remember that only three pastors from a single denomination may attend in order to keep balance between different types of churches. A quick point of clarification on that issue. Denomination is very specific. Example I don’t mean only three “Baptist” pastors. We would limit the number to three Baptist Bible Fellowship International or three Southern Baptist pastors though. Same for “Pentecostal” we can have many, but not more than three Assemblies of God or Church of God in Christ pastors.
In Search of the Great Pastor Conference Update.

Goals…God’s or Ours?
I wrote about Ehud the Left Handed Dude and how I was speaking to myself as much as to you as the reader of this blog. So I wanted to share the issue with you that I feel God leading me to do. Have no fear, I am not planning to assassinate any world leaders or even abortion doctors. I am stepping out to put together a pastor’s conference called “In Search of The Great Pastor”. I first blogged about this idea back in June of 2009! (Here) Now, I have begun taking steps to make it happen. I will announce registration first right here on my blog and the cap will be 20 participants. At the moment, you are getting the first heads up to be looking out for the announcement. I have had pastors who tell me it won’t work, those who say it is a great idea, and one so far who has said, “Call me when you have a date set. I want to be the first to sign up!”…so there are 19 spots left. The location has little to no cell phone reception and no televisions in the rooms. It will be a great opportunity for pastors to connect with other senior pastors of various denominational backgrounds and share their triumphs and struggles in a confidential environment. I hope to have a solid date in enough time to give you one year notice for your calendar. Have an awesome day!
An idea…feel free to use it.

I have this crazy idea…it isn’t really new to me, but don’t know how to get it going…so here it is. If you get around to organizing it before I do…Great! In the Education world, there are a series of conferences called “In Search of the Great Teacher”, in which teachers from multiple disciplines get together and help each other out in an iron sharpens iron type environment. In the business world, Seth Godin has his MBA program that only allows the best and brightest marketers to attend. Great things happen when you get a bunch of like minded people together intent on helping each other reach their maximum potential. In both cases, there isn’t necessarily one guru who knows it all and teaches all the others. It is a collaborative effort on the part of all involved.
My idea is to do the same thing with pastors. Get a group of 10-15 pastors together in a room for a couple days. Preferably from different denominations, different size churches, and different age ranges. Each one bring two ideas from their ministry that just really seem to work well to share with the other pastors. They will also bring one thing that just seems to stand in their way. They feel like they beat their head against the wall with this issue. Of course there is no guarantee that anyone will have a solution, but with 10-15 other pastors in the room, someone might have faced that same problem before. There, that is the whole idea. Putting minds together who want to grow in their ability to minister to the people God has called them to minister to. It isn’t a competition, and no perfect pastor is going to come explain to the peons how ministry should be done. If you are interested and live in the upstate of SC send me a message and if I have much response, I can put it together. If you are from another part of the country and you like the idea…Have at it! No charge, I am giving it away for free!
